The department is entrusted to enforce the Building and Other Construction Workers’ (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996, referred to as the BOCW (RECS) Act, 1996. Besides successful implementation of the BOCW (RECS) Act, 1996, the department have constituted the Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board, which is a prerequisite under the Act.

The Welfare Board is providing Social Security Schemes to the registered workers such as Tools Grant, Insurance Cover under Aam Admi Bima Yojana (AABY), Medical Assistance, Children Education allowance and Maternity benefit for the female registered workers and the wives of the registered workers. Till date the Welfare Board has been able to register 6,661 workers in the state. In order to disseminate information’s to the unregistered workers, the Welfare Board conducts regular IEC activities throughout the State.

 

 

Besides the Social Security Schemes, the Welfare Board also conducts Skill training for the local construction workers who are willing to re-skill or up-skill their knowledge. The training partner for such trainings is the Zynorique Initiatives based at Kohima.
