The Child And Adolescent Labour (Prohibition And Regulation) Act, 1986

The Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 has been amended by the Central Government and is now referred to as the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2016. The motive of the amendment is to include coverage of adolescents who are between the ages of 15 to 18 years in the ambit of the provisions in the above Act, and total prohibition of employment of children below 14 years in any kind of employment in the country.
One of the main projects launched by the Central Government under the above Act is the National Child Labour Project (NCLP). Through the NCLP project, provisions are made to provide non-formal education to the working children who are withdrawn from work. The successful children are thus streamlined to the formal education through SSA. The department is successfully implementing the NCLP programme in Dimapur through 44 such schools sanctioned by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.
In order to create public awareness the department conducts various programmes from time to time. In the year 2016, the department conducted a banner campaign in Kohima and a marathon race to commemorate the World Day Against Child Labour on 12th June, 2016 was organised in Dimapur. 400 Students from schools and colleges and officials from District Administration led by the Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, and departmental officers led by Labour Commissioner, well wishers, NGO’s etc., participated in the marathon race. Certificates and cash prices were given to the winners of different categories and participation certificate was issued to every participant.
